I actually got asked once why I didn\u2019t have headphones in at the gym.<\/p>\n<p>Even as I\u2019m writing this blog post in Starbucks right now, I\u2019ve got my AirPods in.<\/p>\n<p>So don\u2019t get me wrong. I\u2019ve got nothing against utilizing some tunes to boost your productivity.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Here\u2019s where the problem starts\u2026<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nWe become so reliant on music, that when we can\u2019t use it for one reason or another, we feel like we can\u2019t perform.<\/p>\n<p>And there are so many other examples of other things like this:<\/p>\n<p>Needing alcohol to feel social<br \/>\nNeeding coffee in order to be in a good mood in the morning<br \/>\nNeeding our workspace perfectly organized before starting work<br \/>\nAnytime we become dependent on something in order to execute, we need to take a step back.<br \/>\nNow back to the whole music problem.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Here\u2019s what I\u2019ve started doing recently\u2026<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nI take a day off of music each week.<\/p>\n<p>I do a day with no music for my work time. And then I also do a day with no music for my workout in the gym.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s no need to eliminate music entirely.<\/p>\n<p>But once or twice a week is enough to keep me not reliant on it.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes it\u2019s nice to just let my \u201cinner beast\u201d out.<\/p>\n<p>Do you think our ancestors threw on their headphones and got pumped up before they went into battle?<br \/>\nJust something to think about.<\/p>\n<p>Do you feel like you\u2019ve become too reliant on music?
