Poor sleep:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I used to have notoriously bad sleep.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s no coincidence that during this period I smoked a lot of weed.<\/p>\n<p>In case you didn\u2019t know, marijuana destroys REM sleep.<\/p>\n<p>For the 3 years I was addicted to cannabis, I don\u2019t remember having a single dream.<\/p>\n<p>As soon as I stopped smoking, the dreams would come flooding back in a stream of unparalleled intensity.<\/p>\n<p>It was wild.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from smoking weed, I used to also go to sleep very late and at random times.<\/p>\n<p>One night I\u2019d be in bed by 12.<\/p>\n<p>The next I\u2019d be in bed at 3.<\/p>\n<p>The inconsistency is a problem.<\/p>\n<p>To have optimal sleep, start going to bed at the same time every night.<\/p>\n<p>Find when works best for you then stick to it.<\/p>\n<p>Also cut back on caffeine.<\/p>\n<p>I haven\u2019t drank coffee since December 2022 and feel incredible.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to this I would drink gallons of coffee and wonder why my sleep was so terrible.<\/p>\n<p>Fixing your sleep is the first step to completely overhauling your life.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not something you can ever take for granted.<\/p>\n<p>Studies have shown that driving while tired is significantly more dangerous than driving drunk.<\/p>\n<p>If that doesn\u2019t inspire you to start taking sleep seriously, I don\u2019t know what will.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Playing video games:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There were honestly times where all I could think about was Dark Souls.<\/p>\n<p>A few years ago, my flatmate at university got me into Souls games.<\/p>\n<p>These are notoriously difficult games that require a lot of skill to master.<\/p>\n<p>We weren\u2019t very good.<\/p>\n<p>But we became obsessed.<\/p>\n<p>I remember spending over 10 hours a day playing this game.<\/p>\n<p>My flatmate was even worse.<\/p>\n<p>I recall he became so engrossed in trying to finish the game, he\u2019d spend days at a time glued to his PlayStation.<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t need to explain to you why this is a bad thing.<\/p>\n<p>We were living vicariously through a few pixels on a screen.<\/p>\n<p>The life in the videogame was so much more compelling than our real lives, we decided to stay plugged in.<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t good.<\/p>\n<p>Video games are designed to be addictive.<\/p>\n<p>If they couldn\u2019t capture your attention, you wouldn\u2019t play it.<\/p>\n<p>Games nowadays are so addictive that they can dominate your thoughts while you\u2019re getting on with everyday life.<\/p>\n<p>I remember Alex Becker saying he\u2019d be in the shower and thinking about strategies on how to beat a videogame boss he was struggling with.<\/p>\n<p>Our thoughts are priceless.<\/p>\n<p>We cannot waste them on things that aren\u2019t real.<\/p>\n<p>As much as I enjoyed finishing a few of the Dark Souls games, I really didn\u2019t achieve anything.<\/p>\n<p>My life didn\u2019t change.<\/p>\n<p>I just got good.<\/p>\n<p>Stop playing video games.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Social media:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Social media can either be your best friend or worst enemy.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s allowed millions of people to become rich and successful.<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s also trapped billions of people in a constant state of anxiety and comparisons.<\/p>\n<p>The key to making social media work in your favour is to start creating.<\/p>\n<p>And when consuming, only consume content that will help you create.<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t easy, but it can be done.<\/p>\n<p>I still spend some time consuming content I shouldn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s nowhere near as bad as it used to be.<\/p>\n<p>I used to have 10+ tabs open on my laptop, full of YouTube videos I thought looked interesting.<\/p>\n<p>This is a complete waste of time.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t let the algorithm choose your videos for you.<\/p>\n<p>Be intentional with what you consume.<\/p>\n<p>Not reactive.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Porn:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Porn is everywhere.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s more prevalent on the internet than ever before.<\/p>\n<p>And it\u2019s only going to get worse.<\/p>\n<p>There are many figures stating how much of the internet is filled with porn.<\/p>\n<p>Figures vary.<\/p>\n<p>But what\u2019s clear is, there\u2019s a lot of it.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019d be shocked at the level of depravity you can find at the click of a button.<\/p>\n<p>There is no limit to the degeneracy.<\/p>\n<p>And worst of all, anyone with an internet connection can access it for free and in an instant.<\/p>\n<p>Think of your future children.<\/p>\n<p>Do you want them seeing this grotesque content?<\/p>\n<p>I certainly don\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, I have to set a good example for them.<\/p>\n<p>Our parents had no idea how easy this stuff was to find online.<\/p>\n<p>The internet was still new and they didn\u2019t know any better.<\/p>\n<p>We can\u2019t make the same mistake.<\/p>\n<p>If you struggle with pornography, you\u2019re not alone.<\/p>\n<p>The BBC reported that half of all adults in the UK watch porn.<\/p>\n<p>And by all accounts, Pornhub nets over 100 billion views every single year.<\/p>\n<p>If you can overcome this disgusting addiction, you will be in a position to prosper.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Bad diet:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I honestly believe fixing your sleep and your diet is the most important habits you can ever hope to fix.<\/p>\n<p>Once these are covered, everything else becomes easy.<\/p>\n<p>Believe it or not, your inability to focus could easily be due to the things you eat.<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t know about you, but whenever I eat processed carbohydrates, I feel exceptionally groggy.<\/p>\n<p>On the flipside, whenever I eat clean, I can focus for hours.<\/p>\n<p>Combine this with a regular sleep routine that gets you 8 hours of rest every night, and you\u2019ll be able to perform better than 99% of people.<\/p>\n<p>How do you know what to eat?<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s easy.<\/p>\n<p>If it comes in a plastic package, it\u2019s probably not good for you.<\/p>\n<p>If it has over 7 ingredients, it\u2019s probably not a good idea to put it in your body.<\/p>\n<p>If it\u2019s full of sugar, steer clear.<\/p>\n<p>These habits won\u2019t be easy to break.<\/p>\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n<p>Because you\u2019re choosing to go up against the world.<\/p>\n<p>When you decide to quit these things that are holding you back, you\u2019re actively deciding to be different.<\/p>\n<p>You will no longer be lazy.<\/p>\n<p>You will never again feel unmotivated.<\/p>\n<p>And people will think you\u2019re weird for being too serious.<\/p>\n<p>But this is exactly what is required.<\/p>\n<p>Think about the alternative.<\/p>\n<p>How will you feel if you never fix your sleep?<\/p>\n<p>Picture yourself in your 40s, still only getting 5 hours of sleep every night.<\/p>\n<p>Now on top of this, imagine what will happen if you never quit watching porn.<\/p>\n<p>Imagine you never fix your diet and become unattractive.<\/p>\n<p>Imagine you never stop consuming content on social media and watch your life get wasted.<\/p>\n<p>This is a genuine reality for many people.<\/p>\n<p>And it\u2019s terrifying.<\/p>\n<p>If it doesn\u2019t terrify you too, I don\u2019t think I can help you.<\/p>\n<p>Start small, and focus on changing one habit at a time. With persistence and dedication, you can break free from these bad habits and become stronger than ever before.<\/p>\n<p>Remember, you have the power to change your life. Don\u2019t let these bad habits hold you back any longer.<\/p>\n<p>As Mark Manson says, \u201cThe only way to truly change your life is to change what you believe about yourself and what you believe is possible for yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; &nbsp; 1.
